Get To Know Marc
For over 25 years, Marc Messier has lived at the intersection of athletic development, leadership, and mental performance — and he brings the same energy and passion to every athlete, coach, and team he works with.
Marc's relationship with sport started as a player, not a coach. He spent years competing in baseball, building the kind of firsthand experience on the field that no textbook can teach — what it feels like to grind through a slump, to perform under pressure, and to find the mental edge that separates good athletes from great ones. When his playing career came to a close, it became the foundation for the next chapter: coaching.
From there, Marc's coaching career grew deep and wide. He's coached baseball, lacrosse, hockey, football, and track and field, working with athletes from their first U10 competitive experiences all the way up to the collegiate and professional ranks — and winning at every stop along the way. Marc has claimed numerous local and regional championships across each sport he's coached, including a high school national championship in football. He's also a strength and conditioning coach, giving him a rare, full-picture understanding of what it actually takes to build elite performers — physically and mentally. Alongside his coaching career, Marc spent 29 years as a physical education teacher, shaping his lifelong commitment to athlete development from the ground up.
As a longtime athletic director, Marc saw up close how leadership shapes culture, and how culture shapes results — and he loves working with teams to help coaches bring out the best in their players, while developing those coaches into successful leaders in their own right.
But it was a deeper question that defined his path: why do athletes who train relentlessly still fall short? The answer led him beyond the physical and into the mental game. Time and again, Marc observed something striking: even highly successful, high-level performers often struggled internally with confidence and anxiety — battles that didn't show up on a stat sheet but quietly capped what they were capable of. That observation became the catalyst for incorporating mental performance work into his coaching, giving athletes the tools to break through the invisible blocks holding them back and reach levels they hadn't thought possible.
Drawing on his background in teaching, strength and conditioning, sport psychology, and athlete development, Marc became a specialist in what happens between the ears — the difference-maker that separates good from great.
At the core of Marc's philosophy is an unshakable belief: people have the potential to achieve great things when they have the right mindset. And the work of becoming a better version of yourself doesn't stay on the field — it pays off far beyond the sports arena or the boardroom.
Through Benchmarked, Marc helps individuals and teams build the confidence, resilience, focus, and consistency that translate from competition into every area of life. His approach isn't theory — it's built from decades as a player, on the field as a coach, in the classroom as a teacher, and in the weight room — built from the moments that matter most.
Marc sees coaching and mentoring others as servitude leadership. He believes in planting the seeds of success so that others may thrive and grow into the best versions of themselves.
