Get To Know J-G
Every athlete has a dream.
Some dream of making the team. Others dream of earning a scholarship, representing their country, competing professionally, or simply becoming the best version of themselves.
Jean-Gilles Larocque believes those dreams are never achieved through talent alone.
They are built through confidence. Strengthened through resilience. Sustained by character.
For more than 25 years, Jean-Gilles has dedicated his life to helping athletes, coaches, educators, and leaders become the person capable of achieving the goals they pursue. His work is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: performance begins long before the competition starts.
That belief was born from personal experience.
While rehabbing from a college baseball injury, JG's coach handed him a copy of Mental ABC's of Baseball. During a time when he could no longer contribute physically, the book introduced him to the mental side of performance. It revealed something he had never fully understood as an athlete: physical talent may create opportunity, but mindset determines how far someone ultimately goes.
That moment changed the trajectory of his career.
A former collegiate baseball, JG experienced firsthand the challenges, sacrifices, setbacks, and perseverance required to compete at a high level. Those experiences became the foundation for a career devoted to helping others navigate their own journey with confidence, purpose, and perspective.
Since beginning his coaching career in 1999 and his teaching career in 2002, JG has impacted athletes across every stage of development—from young players discovering a love for the game to collegiate, national, and professional athletes competing at the highest levels. As the co-founder of Benchmarked, he has helped approximately 30 athletes earn NCAA opportunities, nearly 20 represent Team Canada, and 10 continue their careers in professional baseball.
His coaching experience spans youth, high school, collegiate, provincial, and national programs, including Team Ontario, Team North, Canadian Futures Showcase, the Voyageurs, and St. Charles College. He also serves as an Associate Scout with the Philadelphia Phillies, evaluating and mentoring athletes pursuing opportunities at the next level.
Away from the field, JG has spent more than two decades as an educator, Physical Education teacher, and Athletic Director, helping young people develop the confidence, discipline, leadership, and resilience that extend far beyond sport. His professional development includes certifications in strength and conditioning, coaching education, athlete development, and mental performance, including Brian Cain's Mental Mastery Certification.
Everything JG teaches is built around one philosophy:
We Over Me
When individuals choose humility over ego, service over status, and accountability over excuses, extraordinary things happen. Teams become stronger. Leaders become more influential. Performance becomes more consistent. Most importantly, people become the kind of individuals others want to follow.
Today, JG works with athletes, coaches, teams, schools, businesses, and organizations to develop the confidence, resilience, leadership, and mental skills required to perform consistently under pressure. His presentations, workshops, and coaching combine more than two decades of real-world experience with practical, evidence-based mental performance strategies that people can immediately apply—in sport, in leadership, and in life.
Whether he is speaking to a championship team, mentoring a young athlete chasing a dream, developing coaches, or helping organizations build high-performance cultures, JG delivers one consistent message:
Great performers are not defined by talent alone. They are defined by the habits they build, the mindset they develop, the people they serve, and the character they choose to display every single day.
Because in the end, trophies collect dust.
The confidence you build.
The people you influence.
The lives you impact.
That's the legacy that lasts.
